The Porsche 911 S
1967-1977
The 911S, or 911 Super, was introduced in 1967. The 911S was the same engine size as the regular 911, but with 160hp, unlike the 130hp of the regular 911. Top speed was close to 140mph. In 1967, Porsche only produced about 1,000 of them. In 1968 the Targa came with a glass rear window. The 911S wasnt exported to the U.S. in 1968 but came back in 1969. In 1969, the 911S made 170hp and the Wheelbase was extended 2 inches. In 1970, the engine was increased to 2195cc which gave it 180hp. In 1972, the engine was raised 2341cc making 190hp. All the 911s shared the same 915/12 transmission now. In 1974, the car was given a new body were the bumpers were the color of the car. The engine was increased to 2,687cc it made 175hp, down from 190hp. In 1975 the horsepower was lowered to165hp. It was replaced by the 911 SC in 1978.
